Jeremy Becomes Cellphone Icon

GLASGOW, Scotland — Ron Jeremy’s likeness will be used as an animated cellphone icon for a “Dear Ron” mobile-based advice service.

Computer animation firm the DA Group, which also has created a line of customizable “Fantasy Babes” that act as cellular tour guides for phone-based java messaging applications and games, developed the Jeremy character and sold the rights to newsreader developer Ananova.

Jeremy is becoming increasing popular in the British Isles, where he has appeared in the popular reality show “The Farm,” lectured at Oxford University and appeared on the standup comedy circuit.

He has also enjoyed previous success in the U.K.’s mobile market, having lent his voice to RJMobile’s “Groan Tones” service, in which Jeremy’s signature groans were captured as cellphone alerts. RJMobile is helping to promote the animated service as well.

Jeremy is happy for the popularity, even if he doesn’t completely understand the technology. “I don’t even use my computer half the time,” he told XBiz.

The service will be launched by Friday, said the DA Group’s chief executive, Mike Antliff, who also praised Jeremy ‘s iconic status.

"Ron Jeremy is not just a pretty face,” Antliff said. “He knows that the hot medium for celebrities is mobile and creating a Ron character that can be animated and sent over the mobile networks is a smart move for a brand that has such a big fan base."
