The event will host a full night of boxing, which will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and former UFC champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell will be on hand to assist in the corner of one of the fighters.
“I’ve been a huge boxing fan my entire life, some of my best friends are boxers and fighters, so when the opportunity came up to get involved, I jumped right in,” K-Beech CEO Kevin Beechum said. “To have the first event I participate in held at the world famous Playboy Mansion, and broadcast on ESPN2 is incredible.”
The headlining fight will be match former lightweight world champion Julio “Kidd” Diaz (34-4, 25 KOs) against unbeaten David “El Torrito” Torres (20-0, 13 KOs) in 10 rounds.
Julio Diaz, who returns to the ring after losing in a 9-round TKO to Juan Diaz in October, hopes to reestablish his status as a championship contender by dominating the undefeated Torres.
“It’s all about looking and feeling good,” Diaz said. “I need to settle into my comfort zone early and build momentum from there. I expect to dominate the fight from start to finish.”
On the undercard, middleweight Henry “Sugar Poo” Buchanan (16-1, 11 KOs) will meet Brian Norman (16-7, 4 KOs) in 8 rounds.
Buchanan, who is also the uncle of San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawn Merriman, said, “Fighting on national TV is a big step up for me. There is more pressure to perform well when you’re on ESPN. Fans at home can pick apart your game and give opinions. I want to be able to leave a good impression on the viewers and the fans in attendance.”
Also on the undercard — a bout featuring Jason “JP” Peterson and an as-yet-unnamed opponent.
Peterson is a life-long friend of Beechum, as well as a self-professed member of the Hell’s Angel motorcycle gang. After 5 years as an amateur boxer, he recently made his professional debut.
In his corner on fight night, Peterson will be assisted by Liddell, another close friend of Beechum.
“When I asked Chuck for some help, he offered to come to the fight and work his corner. I was floored to be honest with you,” Beechum said.
