BENTONVILLE, Ark. — National discount chain Wal-Mart announced a complete redesign of its consumer electronics department throughout the company’s 1,200 stores.
According to PRNewswire, the retailer is making a commitment to help bring Blu-ray and the hi-definition TV experience to consumers.
The company will stock an increased assortment of Blu-ray products, adding new players from Magnavox, Samsung and Panasonic to its heavy line up, plus an increased selection of hi-definition Blu-ray movies.
In addition to new product assortment, recent design changes intend to help Wal-Mart customers better understand the uses and options of new products in the market, include the addition of a "hi-def Blu-ray experience area.”
With the giant mainstream retailer aggressively jumping on the Blu-ray bandwagon adult studios could soon feel the pressure to release all their titles on Blu-ray.
“Two things will drive consumers towards Blu-ray market — available content and friendly pricing,” Digital Playground’s Adella told XBIZ. “As retailers like Wal-Mart jump on board, Blu-ray players become both more accessible and more affordable, growing the market. As the Blu-ray market grows, adult studios will have more incentive to invest in the format.”
Adella added that the company expects to see a huge spike in content and sales following the 2008 holiday season.
“As the demand for content grows, the pressure to release on Blu-ray will be directly reflective. Digital Playground committed to high definition formats over fours years ago and we are thrilled to have so many titles available on Blu-ray.”
Digital Playground will release all new titles on Blu-ray and DVD simultaneously beginning this month and a minimum of two library titles on Blu-ray each week.
Every week millions of customers visit Wal-Mart Stores, Supercenters, Neighborhood Markets, and Sam's Club locations across America or log on to its online store at WalMart.com .
