LeaseWeb Expands Global Hosting Network

AMSTERDAM — Web hosting provider LeaseWeb has expanded its network.

The company, formerly hosting at 160 Gigabits per second now operates at 210 Gbps.

The additional port capacity was purchased from Tata Telecommunications, formerly Teleglobe, Global Crossing, TeliaSonera and the London Internet Exchange.

“Clearly our hosting network is growing extremely fast,” said Bastiaan Spandaw, LeaseWeb’s network architect.

Spandaw said the company used only 40 Gbps of bandwidth in 2006.

“It’s not really surprising that the hosting network is growing so fast. If you have a lot of hosting capacity you attract big clients – companies that consume a lot of bandwidth. These clients make the hosting network grow even faster.”

According to the company, LeaseWeb’s clientele consume a total of 95 Gbps of bandwidth with their dedicated hosting and co-location hosting solutions, but the company will reach the 100 Gbps mark in a few weeks.

“Scalability in our hosting network is extremely important to a number of [our] clients,” said Ruud Mous, LeaseWeb’s sales director. “We have several clients that distribute audio and video directly via our hosting network. Not only do they consume a lot of bandwidth, but they also expect us to be able to add bandwidth for them at any time of day or night. What they need is a scalable dedicated hosting solution. Our hosting network philosophy makes this possible.”

LeaseWeb is an international provider of hosting solutions. The company offers services that include domain name registration, web hosting, dedicated servers, co-location, server virtualization, and streaming.

Founded in 1997, LeaseWeb manages nearly 11,000 servers. Its client base includes Starbucks, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Direct Wonen.
