Strip Club Given 30 days to Appeal Injunction

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. — A permanent injunction prohibiting a local strip club from offering adult entertainment at its current location was signed by a judge Wednesday — but the owners were given 30 days to stay open to seek help from an appellate court.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael C. Solner issued his order nearly a year after the filing of the lawsuit by the city of Santa Fe Springs May 1. The suit contended Spicy Gentleman’s Club was a public nuisance and operating in a manufacturing zone in violation of the city code, saying that nude dancing and other adult entertainment can only be conducted in specified commercial areas of the city.

Judge Solner said the adult entertainment must be ceased at Spicy’s by April 14 if no stay is issued by the appellate court.

A city attorney said there were 18 potential sites in the city where Spicy’s could operate within the law.

Former Strip Club Rezoned out of Adult Entertainment

GENEVA, Ill. — The Kane County Board voted Tuesday to rezone a 40,000-square-foot piece of property, the former site of Thumper's Gentleman's Club, from B-4 business zoning to more restrictive B-3 zoning. Adult entertainment use is no longer permitted there.

The land is adjacent to a mixed-use development of townhouses, condos, retail and office space that is under construction now.

Bar Denied Adult Entertainment License

MILFORD, Mass. — A Milford bar was denied an adult entertainment license after residents opposed to the request packed a zoning board meeting with more than 200 people and presented a 2,000-signature petition against the proposed license.

Although the type of adult entertainment Doc's would offer had not been specified, it was believed to be female strippers.

The owner of Doc’s Sports Bar said he will appeal the board's 4-1 vote against the license. The board said the bar was too close to a planned day care center, a school for the mentally retarded and a Sikh temple

A cemetery — which is zoned "residential" — is within 400 feet of Doc’s property line. The town’s zoning code says any adult entertainment facility has to be farther than 400 feet from a residential zone.

City Tightens Regulations On Adult Entertainment

WAYNESVILLE, Wyo. — Members of the Waynesville Planning and Zoning Commission voted Tuesday evening to increases the distance from a park, school, or place for worship to an adult business from 300 feet to 1,000 feet.

When the Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman asked whether Waynesville currently has any adult businesses, commission member Alan Clark said there’s one adult business just outside the city limits but it isn’t governed by the city’s zoning rules because it’s under the jurisdiction of Pulaski County, not the city of Waynesville.

Clark reminded commission members that the U.S. Supreme Court doesn’t allow cities to ban adult businesses entirely but does allow cities to restrict where they’re located, warning that Waynesville’s present zoning ordinances could open the door to adult businesses in some of Waynesville’s highest-profile commercial locations.

The new ordinance will go into effect if adopted by the city council, which will meet on March 20.

SCOTLAND

Glasgow Sex Shop Closed

GLASGOW, Scotland — Tempt Us, a sex shop on the South Side of Glasgow has been shut down after police officers seized hundreds of sex aids, adult magazines and DVDs.

A police spokeswoman said "Officers carried out a search, under warrant, and recovered a large quantity of sexual aids and pornographic material. The premises have been closed."

Shops must obtain a special license under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 to sell sexual items, including DVDs. The Glasgow City Council currently has no licensed sex shops, and has a policy of not granting sex shop licenses.

Ann Summers, which has an outlet in Glasgow, is classed as a lingerie shop, not a sex store.
