In an hour-long interview with XBIZ Publisher Tom Hymes that also included questions from the audience, the PMGI executive held forth on a number of topics, such as his company's ambitious plans for expansion — including a planned IPO later this year — the Adult Friend Finder acquisition and how PMGI stacks up against the other dominant adult brands, particularly Playboy and Hustler.
Providing a rare look into the mindset of a major corporate investor, Bell also outlined his development plans for various Penthouse divisions and products, including the magazines, websites, content production and, of course, the Penthouse Pets. He also spoke frankly about his philosophy for success in the volatile adult entertainment industry.
"I was surprised at how candid Marc was," Hymes said, "and more than a little pleased that he chose to not give canned or safe responses. What came through for me was Marc's confidence, not only in himself, but more pertinently in the prospects for Penthouse's growth and success. Marc is a player, no doubt, and his willingness to open up makes this keynote a fascinating watch."
Of particular note, especially for the audience, was Bell's assertion that he is still in major acquisition mode. PMGI, he said, is looking to acquire content producers, websites and transaction services in a concerted effort to grow its empire.
Perhaps as a result of those comments, after the conclusion of the keynote, the line of people waiting to speak with Bell extended half the length of the seminar hall.
