AdaptiveMobile Warns of Unrestricted Adult Content on Mobile

DUBLIN, Ireland — Mobile security solutions provider AdaptiveMobile has put out a warning to parents of young children and teens to protect underage mobile phone users from potentially unrestricted adult content on their mobile devices.

The company based its warning on projections from technology research firm Juniper research, and said, “mobile pornography will see exponential growth in 2008. According to Juniper Research, mobile pornography was a $775 million industry in 2008, with the global market predicted to reach $3.5 billion by 2010.”

Mobile sites and promotional campaigns that require no age-verification have raised concerns. AdaptiveMobile also pointed out video-hosting site YouTube’s plans to expand into mobile content delivery, reaching potentially 100 million phones.

"Children and teenagers are the fastest adopters of mobile technology, so the trend toward mobile pornography is of special concern to those of us interested in their safety," AdaptiveMobile CEO Lorcan Burke said. "We want parents to know the real risks that exist and also to encourage them to work closely with their children and mobile service provider for a safe mobile experience."

AdaptiveMobile, which works with mobile carriers to provide subscriber protection, offers tools for users that allows “parents to block applications, phone numbers and sites or allow certain technologies in a limited capacity.”

The company also encouraged parents to become pro-active in monitoring the use of mobile devices by their children.
