“The PlayGirl name is known worldwide,” Pipedream COO Nick Orlandino said. “It’s a natural to create a line of adult novelties under the PlayGirl banner.”
PlayGirl parent Trans Digital Media, also based in New York, has unveiled numerous schemes for the 32-year-old magazine, which is marketed primarily to women and gay men, including mobile content deals, a line of PlayGirl-branded erotic fiction books and “how-to” sex guides and live events.
TDM also owns Cheri and High Society magazines as well as Spice TV.
Pipedream Products was founded in 1973, the same year as PlayGirl, by Bob Feldman and his father, Gene. The Feldmans were joined by Orlandino in 1992. The company is the oldest of the major adult novelty manufacturers, though it did not transition from its original focus of smoking products to adult toys until 1989. Pipedream markets several signature brands, including Seymore Butts’ Toyz line and Red Light District
