According to a Flynt spokesperson, the party is the first time Flynt has hosted a political fundraiser, though he is politically active and has attended many similar events in the past.
Flynt, Hustler-LFP founder and longtime Kucinich supporter, said, “I support Dennis Kucinich because not only have I been a friend of his for 40 years, but I believe he offers an essential, viable and exciting option to the candidates that are more popular at the moment.”
Flynt with his wife and the host committee are throwing the fundraiser. The list of committee members includes several mainstream personalities including Woody Harrelson, Ed Norton, Sean and Robin Wright Penn, Frances Fisher, Stephen and Kristen Stills, Melissa and Tammy Etheridge and Esai Morales, among others.
Flynt's spokesperson told XBIZ there would be no press at the fundraiser. The evening will consist of a cocktail reception, and both Kucinich and Flynt will speak during the event. Approximately 150 contributors are expected to attend.
Kucinich, whose campaign slogan is “Strength through peace,” is against the war in Iraq and supports a platform of diplomacy and improved international relations. He is in favor also of reforms in healthcare and foreign trade policy, as well as sustainable energy solutions.
Yesterday, the candidate participated in a lively debate with other Democratic candidates in Las Vegas. Though Kucinich received the least amount of airtime of any participant, at little more than five minutes, he drew reaction from the crowd when he said the president and vice president are "out of control, and Congress isn't doing anything. It's called impeachment and you don't wait. You do it now. You don't wait."
During the debate, Kucinich also noted the decision-making process of other Democratic hopefuls, and said, "You've seen here tonight people who voted for the war, voted to fund the war, now they have a different position. People voted for the Patriot Act. Now they have a different position. People voted for China trade. Now they have a different position. People who voted for Yucca Mountain. Now they had a different position. Just imagine what it will be like to have a president of the U.S. who's right the first time. Just imagine."
