SAN FRANCISCO — Gay adult company Studio 2000 has rereleased one of its most acclaimed titles, “Dream Team,” to DVD. Written and directed by the legendary Jerry Douglas, “Dream Team” chronicles the lives of several high school basketball players and what happens at their five-year reunion.
Industry professionals honored “Dream Team” in 2000, awarding it four GAYVN Awards (including Best Gay Video and Best Director) and four Grabby Awards (including Best Romance Video and Best Director). The movie stars Rick Chase, Tony Donovan, Aaron Lawrence, Kristian Brooks, Lucas James, Scott Lyons and one of Douglas’ all-time favorites, multi-award-winner Kurt Young.
“’Dream Team’ is the only one of my films that has not been available in many years,” Douglas said. “I was delighted when [Studio 2000 President and CEO] David McKay informed me they would be rereleasing it.”
The DVD rerelease includes never-before-seen photo galleries, remastered sound and color correction and a new director’s commentary that features an hour-long exclusive interview with Douglas by porn journalist J.C. Adams.
“Jerry Douglas is a close friend and industry mentor,” Adams said, “so it was an honor to spend the afternoon recording his thoughts on the making of ‘Dream Team.’ I was on the crew of this movie almost 10 years ago. It's funny how things circle around.
"Jerry actually remembered an embarrassing anecdote involving myself in an accidental near-electrocution that I'd successfully blacked out ... This is an erotic film that holds up remarkably well with repeated viewings, so Jerry's stories and background dish will only enrich the ‘Dream Team’ experience for fans.”
“This film was always a very special, very personal film for me for many reasons,” Douglas said. “It’s the most autobiographical film I’ve ever made.”
Douglas said the idea for the movie came to him when a friend took his lover to a college class reunion.
“Watching it now,” Douglas said, “some 10 years later, I am pleased to see that it doesn’t feel dated. It was also one of the best casts I’d ever assembled, especially with Rick Chase and Aaron Lawrence in the lead roles.”
“’Dream Team’ is the jewel in Studio 2000’s catalog,” McKay said. “It has been among our most-requested titles from customers and video distributors around the world. We are honored to make this fantastic movie widely available once again.”
