Adult retail chain Adam & Eve teamed with Reality-X Productions to create the six-episode series, which promises to find “the sexiest couple in America,” then cast them in their own hardcore feature.
Hosted by Carmen Luvana, the series’ first episode, titled “Casting Call,” features men and women from all over the country vying for their 15 minutes of fame — and an exclusive contract with Adam & Eve worth up to $250,000.
“You’d be surprised at the array of people that came out for the open casting calls and sent in video submissions,” Brian Gross, publicity director for Reality-X Productions, told XBiz. “There were all kinds of people, and they did anything and everything to get noticed.”
Sixteen semifinalists were selected at auditions in New York, Las Vegas, Miami and Tampa, then flown to Jamaica in March to compete for a chance to star in a movie and win the contract.
Like all reality shows, Gross said, the series boasts plenty of back-biting and high-tension drama, but with one unique twist: there’s also a lot of sex. Candidates had to perform in front of a panel of expert judges to see who was up to the task and who could stay up for it.
Judges, including Luvana, DJ Whoo Kid from 50 Cent’s G-Unit, NFL star Justin Smith and Adam & Eve contract girl Austyn Moore, among others, did their best Simon Cowell imitations by providing brutally honest evaluations on each couples merits and shortcomings.
“There's a reason why there are hundreds of women in porn, yet you see the same handful of guys in every movie: It's one of the toughest jobs around,” judge and Village Voice sex columnist Tristan Taormino said. “The straight male porn star is an underpaid, unsung hero who has uncanny abilities. And he's hard to find.”
The porn star wannabes included bartenders, cabdrivers and stockbrokers, as well as a fellow calling himself Studly Screwright.
The companies are currently casting for a second season. Both real couples and single people who don't mind being paired with an unknown partner are eligible to audition.
