The Stockroom Brings Out L.A.'s Kink

LOS ANGELES – The Stockroom retail store opening gala Friday night celebrated the fetish specialty company's official foray into high-end latex couture with chocolate, wine and a fashion show worthy of Paris Fashion Week.

Stockroom.com owner Joel Tucker, newly appointed President Mike Herman and Marketing Director Allain Rochel took party goers on a tour of the company's huge manufacturing and storage facility in the Silver Lake area of the city to show off what so many years of hard work and interior design has done to the former flag factory.

The Stockroom's designer J Mysterioso, who also is responsible for the elegant revamp of the Stormy Leather store in San Francisco, told XBIZ that he had quite a blank – and unattractive – canvas to start with when he began to develop what would become The Stockroom's storefront.

What he turned out was a beautiful black-and-white two-floor store, the simple color scheme allowing for the colorful leather cuffs, fetish gear and latex couture to stand out in all its kinky glory.

Party goers included Ian and Alicia Denchasy of Freddy and Eddy, adult industry director Ernest Greene and industry legend Nina Hartley, who mingled with chocolate-covered pretzels, cheese and crackers and just enough Chardonnay to last the night while DJ Fever spun a mix of club music and party favorites.

Once 10:30 p.m. rolled around, everyone in and outside the storefront grew anxious to see the latex fashion show that burlesque performer Diamondback Annie and fetish model Courtney Cruz were slated to headline.

Using the black staircase as a runway, the women snaked down the railings wearing beautiful handmade leather collars, latex pencil skirts and elegant feather-laden pillbox hats as the crowd hollered. If Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld and clothing designer Nanette Lepore went kink, this is the kind of collection they'd debut in Paris.

"The party was fantastic," Rochel told XBIZ. "When we opened the doors [the next morning] there were already people outside. It's truly the right time for the new store."

The Stockroom is now officially open for business at 2809 1/2 W. Sunset Blvd. and houses Stockroom.com's Syren latex, Daedalus Publishing and adult product brand KinkLab, as well as classic Stockroom.com wares.
