“Sexpo plays an important role in encouraging people to openly talk about sex, explore health and lifestyle issues and be more comfortable about their sexuality,” Sexpo founder David Ross said. “Both visitors and exhibitors at Sexpo have benefited considerably in Australia and we are very excited to be taking this winning formula to South Africa.”
Sexpo Joburg is expecting more than 30,000 attendees, with plans calling for exhibitors covering aspects of health, sexuality and adult lifestyles including erotic book sales, fashion, lingerie, wine tasting, spa baths and health and fitness products.
"Sexpo is a lifestyle expo encompassing many areas of adult leisure and an information expo heightening awareness about health issues and sexual education, but most of all it’s about having a good time," the show's organizers said.
The Sexpo stage will feature celebrities and stage acts, including some who have appeared at Australian Sexpo shows like novelty act "Pricasso" — who uses his penis as a paintbrush — and Miss Nude Australia Arianna Starr. Audience participation shows, comedians, fashion shows and giveaways also are planned.
Sexpo also will feature an erotic fine-art exhibition and sexuality workshops led by relationship advisors, pole and lap-dancing tutors and tantra masters. A sexual health education section will feature a range of sexual health awareness groups, including nonprofit health organizations, to provide attendees with information regarding health and sexuality.
Sexpo started in Melbourne, Australia, in 1996 as a forum for women to feel comfortable about buying adult products. The event has expanded into a four-day adult lifestyle exhibition that occurs annually in five Australian cities, maintaining a reported 44 percent female patronage for its mix of exhibitors and entertainment. Sexpo has sold more than 1.5 million tickets.
Sexpo Joburg runs Sept. 27-30 at the Gallagher Estate exhibition facilities in Johannesburg. For more information, visit Sexpo.co.za.
