Hosted by the iconic Ron Jeremy and gonzo king Seymore Butts, the evening was highlighted by the arrival of celebrities on the red carpet, several well-staffed bars, and a huge dance area in front of the theatre’s main stage where clips from Vivid alt director Eon McKai’s up coming release “Doll Underground” were shown on a screen above the tandem cage dancers and spinning DJs.
Event sponsor SexToy.com gave away vibrating bullets to female party attendees.
Doors opened at around 9:30 p.m., but the party started in earnest with the appearance of Sexopolis co-hostess Sunny Lane who arrived in a limo, flanked by SexZ Picture’s Jeff Mullen and starlet Veronique Vega.
“I’m so glad to be here and be back home for a couple of weeks,” said Lane who had just arrived from appearances at the Exotic Dancer Gentleman’s Club Expo in Las Vegas. “I’m here tonight just to have a good time and check out the Déjà vu-La Boutique fashion show.
Lane was clad in a fiery red lingerie outfit. She told XBIZ that she will be featured on CNN Headline News, on Labor Day, Sept. 3.
The sweltering temperatures drove most attendees up to the theatre’s rooftop VIP area. With a neon-lit view of Hollywood Blvd., a live simulcast of downstairs activities being projected on the wall and thumping music that was not unbearably loud, the scene was set for industry players who mingled with fans.
Seymore Butts hosted a cabana lounge area where wannabe porn stars could speak to representatives from Butts’ Lighthouse Talent Agency and have their picture taken as well as be evaluated for potential industry modeling jobs. At times it was difficult to tell the newbies from the pros.
Butts, unlike the majority of attendees, kept true to the party’s “pajama” theme and showed up wearing a very expensive-looking set of gold pinstripe pajamas and enormous donkey-head bedroom slippers. Butts said he bought the slippers at Target.
“I’m ankle-deep in ass,” he said, laughing, and then said he was lucky to be at the party at all after a rolling black-out at his home in the Valley caused him to have to climb a security gate in order to get to his limo.
ClubJenna’s newest director and Sexopolis co-hostess Joanna Angel showed up dressed in her summer casual best accompanied by AVN’s Peter Warren. She told XBIZ that she’s planning to release her next movie under the Spice TV imprint and then will start production on a title for Club Jenna.
Also representing the alt-porn genre, Vivid Alt founder Eon McKai arrived at the party straight from an on-set birthday party for Vivid’s Shailar Coby. McKai was seen talking shop with Teravision executive producer/director Sancho.
Just finishing post-production on Dave Navarro’s directorial debut for Teravision “Broken,” as well as his own directorial debut “Ferocious,” Sancho said that he’d had a rough week. Activities at Teravision include lining up the next director for their Celebrity line, and Sancho hinted vaguely that they may have another musician in mind or a mainstream director.
The ubiquitous Ron Jeremy arrived and promptly set up a table to hawk various items branded with his name, including beef jerky, hot sauce, a rap CD and Ron Jeremy’s Auto-Fellatio Doll manufactured by Pipedreams. XBIZ caught Ron hanging out with Pure Play’s “Pussy Party” director Cousin Stevie.
“Stevie’s the one that told me, ‘You gotta market yourself,’” Jeremy said, laughing about his proclivity for self-promotion and reputation for being a tight-wad. “You know what happens when I take a dollar out of my wallet? The president on the bill goes, “Oh my God — sunlight!’”
L.A. Nitelife’s James Bartholet told XBIZ that part of his Labor Day plans included throwing a going away party for performer Kurt Lockwood, who apparently is retiring from the industry to move to Spain and start a family. Lockwood was scheduled to appear at Sexopolis but did not appear at the event.
Performer Tee Reel kept a watchful eye on several of the female talent who were besieged by male fans and camera crews.
Adult stars Olivia O’Lovely and Flower Tucci stopped briefly for a photo op in the lobby of the theatre and then joined the rooftop festivities.
Performer Laurie Vargas caused a stir when she was interviewed by a Spanish-speaking crew and displayed some of her Latin charms for their cameras.
Also seen in the crowd on Friday night; performers Tommy Gunn and Jessica Jaymes, as well as Lighthouse girls Miss Kitty and Sophia Sotto.
Show sponsors included Syren late fashions, HotMovies.com and adult retailer The Pleasure Chest.
Sexopolis organizer Matthew Grim said, after the event, “The main thing is, everybody had a great time, everyone will remember what a good party it was, and we look forward to doing it again next year.”
Grim and his partner Courtney also organize the annual Bondage Ball. This year’s Bondage Ball is scheduled for Halloween, Oct. 31, and will also be held at the Henry Fonda Theatre.
