Tommy Gunn told XBIZ that he heard about the video's casting call in May and showed up to see a slew of adult performers vying for a spot in the band's video. He said that the directors were surprised to see someone of his "status" in the industry had showed up.
Gunn said he would never have missed the opportunity to further build the bridge between the adult and mainstream worlds.
"I think [the idea] was wonderful," Gunn said. "I think it's about time and I hope it's only the beginning. If I can have anything to do with the crossover, I'm going to do my best."
The video for "Moneymaker," which was released this week, begins with short interview clips featuring Gunn, adult newcomer Faye Runaway and performer Hailey Young. Gunn described his role as an adult bookshop owner who makes his way to the back of the store with Young and Runaway.
He said he also got a kick out of the song, which he said refers to the role of the male adult star as the "moneymaker."
Gunn also said he thought starring in Rilo Kiley's music video could act as a springboard for his mainstream crossover, and hopes to land some small roles in mainstream movies, following the lead of adult stars Tera Patrick and Stormy Daniels.
"I want to try to show people that there are people [in adult] with potential that can do more than just perform," Gunn said.
To help spread the message, Gunn recently hired publicist Hillary B. and agent Gar Lester of the Gar Lester Agency to aid Gunn in expanding his acting career into the mainstream world.
