The company has announced that shooting on “Dark Angels #2: Bloodline” will take place over a two-week period in May, and New Sensations has once again enlisted Nic Andrews to direct the vampire thriller. Andrews also helmed the first film in the series, which was released in 1999.
At the time of its release, “Dark Angels” was New Sensations’ biggest-budget movie to date. President Scott Taylor said that the financial gamble paid off so well for the company that he won’t hesitate spending more than twice as much on the sequel.
“We had some amazing success with ‘Dark Angels,’ and the opportunity is finally perfect for us to create this long-awaited sequel,” Taylor said. “We will not spare on the expense, the intensity or the drama with the making of this movie, and I am thrilled to have Nic Andrews back in the fold to shoot what I am confident will be the biggest movie that New Sensations has ever put out.”
Like the mainstream “Blade” series, “Dark Angel 2” tells the story of vampires combating mortal foes, and will feature, as publicist Jeff Mullen told XBiz, “amazing special effects, including disintegrating heads.”
While the company was tight-lipped about specifics, it said the multi-million-dollar production will be shot using high-def Panasonic 720P cameras in 24-frame-per-second mode, with multiple locations, lavish sets and plenty of special effects.
The story will revolve around the plight of a band of vampires who are targeted by human vigilantes and promises to touch upon themes that are not typical in adult films.
“This is a wonderful script that will provide real conflict as it offers a unique look at the larger struggle between good and evil,” Taylor said.
The director has worked for eight years in the adult industry, and also works in the mainstream market. “I don’t like gonzos or wall-to-walls,” Andrews said. “I prefer features. I have worked a long time to get to do what I’m doing now.”
Andrews will be shooting at numerous locations, and will be in Palmdale, Calif., for a car-rollover scene. His crew is spending a month in preproduction building sets, among which will be a trailer home with floating walls for a vampire to be thrown around, Andrews said.
Bret Blade has been cast in the male lead role for “Dark Angels #2: Bloodline,” and Dillon Day will be returning from the Czech Republic to reprise his role as detective/vampire slayer Jack Cross, but Taylor was a bit cryptic about the identity of the female lead.
“Let’s just say that we’ve found somebody perfect to play this role that is not totally known yet to the adult world,” Taylor commented.
