Creek County District Judge Donald Thompson resigned in August over allegations that he had disgraced the Oklahoma judicial system by masturbating with a penis pump during both civil and criminal trial proceedings.
Charges were first filed against Thompson in June 2003 by the state’s attorney general after several court employees complained about the judge's inappropriate use of the pump, which he allegedly concealed under his court robes.
Typically a popular item sold at sex toy retail outlets both online and offline, the vacuum-like penis pump creates a pressure that is larger than a natural erection. Most men gain one to three inches in length and 25 percent in thickness.
Thompson opted to retire from the bench rather than face losing his retirement benefits; however, if he is convicted on any of the charges, he will be forced to forfeit those benefits for violating his oath of office as a public employee.
According to an affidavit, on one of the alleged occasions in May 2003, while Thompson presided over murder trial of Kurt Vomberg, several jurors reported hearing what sounded like a blood pressure pump coming from the bench, and a court reporter claims to have seen Thompson shaving his groin with a disposable razor.
It is also alleged that Thompson used the pump almost daily during one murder trial he presided over.
Traces of Thompson's semen were later discovered on the courtroom rug, his chair and his robes during a police investigation.
Thompson, a 22-year veteran of the Oklahoma court system, now faces an April 18 trial date and a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison for each count, including fines as high as $20,000.
His attorney, Clark Brewster, claims that waiving the hearing was part of his strategy to give his client his "day in court" and to prove to a jury that the charges are "sensational" and unfounded.
Brewster's original defense of his client was that Thompson was given the penis pump as a gag gift on his 50th birthday.
