When police raided his home earlier this year, they found an extraordinary number of pornographic images on his PC.
The 49-year-old former pathologist had gathered 116,994 on his computer equipment, including 1,135 involving children.
Those kind of numbers allowed a judge with the Peterborough Crown Court to hand out a 10-month jail term for 11 offenses and put him on a sex offenders register.
"It cannot be stated too often that one person's sexual depravity is a young person's abuse,” Judge Nicholas Coleman said. “It must be stopped.”
Hutton, who admitted downloading the prolific number of images, used external storage devices to hold some of the images and had what police call an “evidence eliminator” to remove traces.
Attorney George Speed, who represented Hutton, said his client was a lonely man who had not understood his part in child abuse because of his distance from the source, had not distributed it and there had been no chance of anyone else finding it.
Speed told Cambridge News Online that defending the case was "unpleasant" and it was clear that Hutton was addicted to pornography and hoarded it.
