New Brazil VOD Service Includes Playboy Content

SAO PAULO, Brazil — Brasil Telecom and Claxson have launched a broadband video-on-demand service that will include programming from Playboy TV Latin America.

The companies are showcasing the new service, called Turbo Video VOD, at the Futurecom trade show in Florianopolis, Brazil.

Turbo Video VOD will become available to Brasil Telecom broadband users using Claxson’s ESDC (El Sitio Digital Channel) platform, the companies said in a release Wednesday.

The deal with Playboy TV Latin America content is based on a marketing and distribution agreement between Editorial Abril and Claxson.

Turbo Video VOD will also include other programming, including Fox Sports Latin America, MuchMusic Canada, MuchMusic Argentina, Fashion TV, Infinito, Venus movies, Utilisima and a selection of classic films featured in the Retro and Space channels.

“The agreement opens the doors for the future expansion of our company in Brazil, where we already count on Marcos Galassi of NexTVision, a strategic and knowledgeable ally in IP technology, for the development of our IP television platform,” Claxson spokesman Roberto Cibrian said in a release.

NexTVision is the first Brazilian company to develop technology for the distribution of interactive contents through IP networks.

The Brasil Telecom and Claxson deal allows broadband users to access three different digital content packages, including an option to rent movies.
