Created by Nightcandy, Red Light World is modeled after Amsterdam's famed red light district in the form of a massively multi-player game in which users can shop for sex toys, visit adult movie theaters, window shop for lingerie, peruse the shelves of adult novelty stores, or have erotic encounters. Clicking on certain storefronts will also link users to porn sites that are part of Nightcandy's partnership program.
Nightcandy owns and operates its own adult content site through parent company Global Reach Inc.
"When you download it and go in, you'll find it's very much like being in Amsterdam's red light district without having to worry about some of the strange people that gravitate to that place," Nightcandy President Ray Schwartz told Wired, adding that the game is only in a pre-release stage.
One of the aspects Schwartz hopes will set Red Light World apart from other games or adult websites is the chance to interact with other players in real-time, while remaining immersed in a world of cyber erotica.
The game is offered as a download from the Red Light World website. Users pay $20 per month for VIP membership and can create their own avatar through which to experience Red Light World.
Nightcandy hopes that the anonymity aspect of the game will help feed its popularity and draw in an even number of men and women interested in interacting and chatting in cyberspace.
"There's a tremendous amount of females that have an interest in going to something like this," Schwartz told Wired. "A lot of females might be interested in looking at this."
