By 7 p.m. PST today, the Masturbate-a-Thon starts.
Nearly 100 masturbators will be in front of one of three cameras for the climax of “National Masturbation Month.”
This year, people from all over the world will be celebrating the videocast of the Masturbate-a-Thon, which is intended to raise funds for The Center for Sex & Culture of San Francisco.
Organizer Carol Queen told XBiz that it’s going to be a “healthy celebration,” and that participants can jack off as many times as possible and take five-minute breaks every hour.
“We’ll have plenty of paper towels available,” she noted.
Porn stars Michael Brandon and Nautica Thorn will be on hand to get the crowd worked up, and Queen expects them to be participating as well.
“We’ll also have some exotic dancers and porn video,” she said.
The 4th annual event will be hosted in three rooms – one for men, one for women and one for both sexes (each room will have a web camera)
“We want everyone to have enough space so that it makes for some good voyeurism,” Queen said.
The pledge drive requires friends to sponsor participants for a certain amount of money for every minute they masturbate.
Over the past nine years 1,570 participants have raised over $25,000.
The longest time recorded by a participating masturbator was six hours, 15 minutes.
San Francisco-based Good Vibrations, a two-store sex toy retailer, began celebrating “National Masturbation Month” in 1995, when then-Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders was fired for saying that masturbation should be discussed as part of young peoples' sex education. The words cost Elders her job.
The Center for Sex & Culture plans to provide live streaming media through www.masturbate-a-thon.com at 7 p.m.
Participants can attend the event at 245 8th St. in San Francisco.
