Octokuro Shapeshifts Into Cosplay Queen

Octokuro’s life has been intertwined with creativity for as long as she can remember. She credits her hobby of making collectible toys for eventually leading her to explore the world of cosplay. That passion evolved into creating erotic photo sets, for which she enjoyed combining latex clothing with various styles, like cyberpunk and post-apocalyptic themes. Then, a couple of years ago, she ventured further, producing spicy videos.

These days, she creates a variety of content, but lately has been particularly drawn to crafting short stories and developing more elaborate cosplay looks for her videos. With an engaged following ready to devour her passionate geeky fare, Octokuro has grown her clip-making empire and was recently named the 2024 XBIZ Europas Female Clip Artist of the Year.

As this month's cover star, Octokuro opens up about her creative origins, her approach to shooting content, and her most popular clips.

XBIZ: What inspired you to become an adult entertainer?

OCTOKURO: I have a passion for creating and telling stories. Stories for adults, in particular, represent a unique and crazy form of art. They are a blend of visual imagery and action. This combination is truly fascinating to me. Additionally, I’ve been deeply inspired by the support of my fans, who have encouraged my creative experiments from the very beginning. Their enthusiasm and encouragement have motivated me to explore new ideas.

XBIZ: How have you evolved, personally and professionally, since entering the industry?

OCTOKURO: With each passing year, I acquire new skills, such as organizational abilities, communication techniques and the capacity to maintain composure when things don’t go as planned. I’ve also become better at managing stress. It’s difficult to separate these skills into personal and professional categories because they are intertwined.

However, I must admit that there is still room for growth in terms of organization. I often find myself wanting to tackle 10 projects at once and still struggle to accept the necessity of taking breaks. Balancing ambition with the need for rest is an ongoing challenge for me.

XBIZ: What kind of videos do you most enjoy creating?

OCTOKURO: I enjoy creating solo videos that incorporate a monologue directed at the audience. Additionally, I take pleasure in creating short videos with a mini storyline at the beginning. It’s always fun when both my co-performer and I have roles to play. I also love designing and building sets, though I must admit, I dislike the process of taking them down afterward. Perhaps I should consider learning how to film using a green screen!

XBIZ: How do you ensure a consistent output of engaging content?

OCTOKURO: This is probably one of the most challenging tasks, but I find it helpful to jot down my ideas. A good idea needs time to mature. When the time comes, I can simply choose the most suitable one to execute. It’s unrealistic to always create highly complex videos, so I try to balance them with simpler ones. My multitasking ability is both a blessing and a curse. At the moment, I have about eight video projects in various stages of completion. However, if necessary, I can come up with something very quickly.

XBIZ: What’s your approach to social media marketing?

OCTOKURO: My approach is quite old-fashioned. I primarily share my new photos and occasionally post updates on my work-in-progress costumes. I’m not really familiar with the latest marketing trends. I still believe in the philosophy “Do good work, and people will notice you.” While this approach may not align with modern strategies, it reflects my focus on authenticity and quality over trend-chasing.

XBIZ: Tell us about your production process. What kind of hardware, software and setup go into your clips?

OCTOKURO: I don’t use anything particularly special for my video editing; I stick to standard editing software. However, I do watch YouTube tutorials now and then, especially those that teach you how to fix mistakes in your footage — quite handy!

I have a strong preference for shooting with natural daylight and without bulky equipment. On the other hand, I also like to experiment by filling the background with RGB lights or setting up artificial candles, depending on the concept I’m working with. It all really depends on the creative vision I have for each project.

XBIZ: What do your fans demand most frequently? What content seems to sell best?

OCTOKURO: My fans appreciate variety, and I strive to keep them engaged with diverse content. I do my best to ensure they never get bored. Honestly, I haven’t quite figured out the formula for a successful release. Sometimes, a complex project receives a lukewarm response, while something simple can be met with enthusiasm. One of my signature styles is BBG videos, where my multitasking skills come into play. Who knows, perhaps a gangbang video might be on the horizon.

XBIZ: What was it like being named Female Clip Artist of the Year at the 2024 XBIZ Europas?

OCTOKURO: Amazing! It was my very first award win and the emotions were incredibly intense. What touched me even more was the reaction from my friends and colleagues. Some of them were even more excited than I was. I am very proud of myself and the people I work with.

XBIZ: Talk about your main goals for the coming year and beyond.

OCTOKURO: I am eager to work with and get to know a variety of talented people in the industry. One of my goals is to bring at least some of my bucket list ideas to life through video projects. I am also keen on learning new techniques in video creation. However, this past year has been incredibly intense and demanding, so I plan to prioritize more downtime and relaxation, and perhaps spend more time playing the guitar. Balancing my professional aspirations with personal growth and leisure is important to me as I move forward.
