Skye Blue loves New York.
Even when she briefly relocated to Los Angeles for a period to pursue dreams of porn stardom, she chose to live in downtown LA, the part that most resembles New York.
Now that she’s back in NYC, aka “the city” — as she and other die-hard New Yorkers, adoptive or otherwise, call it — she feels a jolt of creative energy.
“I love New York so much!” is the first thing out of her mouth when we link up with her at her Brooklyn apartment. “It’s so nice to be home.”
Blue moved back to the city, she says, because she wanted to be around theater more.
“A lot of my friends are theater kids,” she explains. “I have a bunch of friends that work on Broadway. I’ve been soaking in just getting back into the community out here. I love everything that’s happening in New York and I just want to be a little creative again.”
The New York arts and nightlife scenes were the fertile ground from which Blue arose, a stunning presence with the poise and glamour of a fashion model. Exploring sex parties and forms of online sex work like camming, she attracted a fan base that recognized her as instantly iconic. Then came the idea of doing porn, and the pandemic-era move to Los Angeles.
With the last vestiges of those times behind her, however, Blue is back in the thriving community she missed so much.
“New York nightlife is coming back,” she enthuses. “There is a resurgence of people wanting to go out and see theater — not just Broadway, but local theater.”
