SWR Data Survey Probes AI Adoption Among Creators

LOS ANGELES — SWR Data, a market research outfit led by industry veterans Mike Stabile and MelRose Michaels, has released data from its upcoming 2024 State of the Creator report, illustrating trends in AI adoption among creators.

The full 2024 State of the Creator report will be released later this fall, with data on current industry demographics, revenue, platform adoption and behavior, as well as longitudinal data related to the previous State of the Creator report from 2022.

According to SWR Data’s research, nearly two-thirds of adult content creators (62%) are now using artificial intelligence tools to expand or run their business. The data comes from a survey of over 400 working creators, conducted during July and August.

“Despite the widespread adoption, real-world use of adult AI is so far defying those who fantasized — or feared — a flood of AI influencers replacing actual creators,” a rep explained, adding that just 8% of creators who use AI have created “digital twins” or other interactive AI versions of themselves.

The rep added that most creators who use AI are doing so for content or to gain inspiration for shoots (80%), while 28% have actually generated adult AI content and about one in five (18%) have used AI to chat with fans.

According to the survey, opinions on AI among adult creators are evenly split, with roughly as many viewing the technology positively (36%) as viewing it negatively (37%).

“However, those who are using AI in any capacity are dramatically more likely to feel positively about the technology and be open to expanding their use of AI,” the rep said.

Michaels explained that the SWR survey data counters common narratives around AI and adult creators.

“There’s so much money being invested in adult AI right now, and platforms would do better to understand that creators are more interested in an extra set of hands than they are a sixth finger,” she noted. “We’re seeing some really compelling data as to who is using AI and how they’re using it.”

The 2024 State of the Creator report will be available upon publication for those who join the SWR Mailing List.
