Spanish Feminist Leader Crosses Party Lines to Demand Porn Censorship, Sex Work Abolition

MADRID — Veteran Spanish feminist academic and activist Amelia Valcárcel reaffirmed her alliance with the right-wing Partido Popular (PP) on Wednesday by issuing a demand for the adoption of 10 policy items, starting with censorship of adult content and the abolition of all sex work.

Valcárcel, an influential member of the ruling PSOE, met on Tuesday with the PP president, conservative Senator Alberto Núñez Feijóo, newspaper El Español reported. She thanked him for his party’s opposition to trans rights and to the controversial “Only Yes Means Yes” law targeting sexual assault.

On Wednesday, Valcárcel issued a “decalogue” — a word that, in Spanish, is also used to refer to the Ten Commandments — demanding the adoption of 10 policy items. Topping Valcárcel’s SWERF/TERF agenda are limiting porn and outlawing sex work.

Other demands include the “expulsion of queer propaganda” and “a deep reform of trans legislation.”

Valcárcel and the contingent of older feminists who follow her have become radicalized by their opposition to some PSOE members who do not share their radical anti-sex work and anti-trans beliefs. Valcárcel is therefore seeking to persuade the opposition PP to adopt her tenets in the event that it unseats the PSOE.

“I showed you yesterday the current feminist agenda,” Valcárcel tweeted at Feijóo, adding, “I give you my support because you are capable of executing a successful feminist policy.”
