HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Adam & Eve has shared the results of a new survey asking the question, “Have you ever been denied access to contraception based on your age?”
Among poll respondents, 11% said they'd been denied contraception due to their age, with 14% of males and 8% of females turned away.
By contrast, 84% of respondents said they'd had no problems accessing birth control, with 80% of males and 87% of females reporting easy access.
Finally, 5% of respondents said they were unsure.
“Access to safe, affordable birth control is both a constitutional and human right,” said Dr. Jenni Skyler, resident sexologist at Adam & Eve. “That said, some people say they still feel judged or intimidated by their doctors or pharmacists. Many schools and clinics offer free condoms, and Planned Parenthood, whose motto is ‘Care, no matter what,’ has over 600 locations throughout the United States.”
The web-based survey of over 1,000 American adults age 18 and up, conducted by an independent company, was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.
