JOHANNESBURG — Athena Anderson is the subject of a full pictorial in the current South African edition of Playboy.
The pictorial includes a chat with the ATMLA-repped performer, in an issue that also features an interview with Scarlett Johansson, spreads on models Polina Larina and Molly Eskam, and articles on sex worker rights, cannabis culture and BDSM.
Anderson revealed that the inspiration behind her pictorial was “hippie vibes, baby!” She added that she identifies as “a bougie millennial hippie” and wanted the shoot to reflect that.
“I personally think I was born in the wrong decade,” she shared. “I strongly advocate for free love and making peace, not war. And when you get to know me you’ll understand what I’m talking about.”
Reflecting on the chance to join the ranks of the publication’s legendary pinups, Anderson said, “Words can’t describe how excited I was for the opportunity to be in Playboy South Africa. The shoot was so much fun — they really just let me do my thing. Their wardrobe and makeup was on point and everyone was so nice and fun. Of course, while shooting I couldn’t help but be my goofy self and the crew was laughing and loving it.
“It was such a fun day and I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity,” she concluded.
