LOS ANGELES — Riley Reid’s phone and Twitter account were compromised Tuesday evening after malicious hackers took control of her phone number.
The hackers then posted antisemitic and homophobic content to Reid’s Twitter account. That content was still up hours after the hack.
“Basically someone hacked into my phone provider and was able to get the number switched to their provider and device,” Reid explained to XBIZ. “So they are getting all my calls and texts as well as two-factor authentication.”
The performer is urging those who have her number not to text or call it.
“Otherwise this person will now have your number and you’re at risk of going through what I’m going through,” she cautioned.
Reid added that the bad actors have been able to hack into her eBay, Venmo, Amazon and other accounts. However, she called the Twitter hack “the biggest disaster of them all.”
“My Twitter is my pride and joy,” she said. “It’s something I have worked so hard at building and for someone to hack into it and ruin it with hateful, disgusting tweets is horrible. I’m embarrassed and can’t believe this is happening to me. I’m so sorry to anyone else who is affected by this. I hope that this person will have mercy and stop what they are doing. I hope they can have self-perspective and realize they are causing harm in so many ways and simply stop.”
