Sally Mae is back with a vengeance — literally, in Adult Time’s sequel to its all-girl “Sweet Sweet Sally Mae” homage to 1970s blaxploitation features, which won All-Girl Movie of the Year at the 2022 XBIZ Awards as well as Best All-Girl Sex Scene for Ana Foxxx and Scarlit Scandal.
“In the first film, I was a badass chick, but this time around, Sally’s mission is vengeance,” says Foxxx, who plays the titular character. “I feel like she’s highly focused and able to put past lessons to use.”
Helmed once again by award-winning director Ricky Greenwood, who says he gave the actors “a lot of creativity in the dialogue and their delivery” due to the film’s more comedic tone, “Sally Mae: The Revenge of the Twin Dragons” builds upon his “homage to ’70s movies” vision.
“One of the big changes is the introduction of a boy/girl storyline with a greater variety of sex acts,” Greenwood teases. “We also have more actors and more fight scenes. A bit more special effects and a lot of fun. This time we had time to set-design the movie and create the mood we expect for the film. The first movie had no expectations; it was on a smaller budget and more to test the market. But now we have fans and people eagerly awaiting the sequel so we have a little bit of pressure to not disappoint.”
Nonetheless, the movie will continue to capture the vibe and groove of the ’70s genre films that inspired it, albeit with less dramatic structure than Greenwood’s other recent feature, “Grinders.”
On movies like the latter, he notes, actors “have less input, because it is very structured; if we deviate from the plan, it can go bad very quickly. ‘Grinders’ had specific dramatic points to hit, whereas with Sally Mae it was just pure fun.”
For Foxxx, part of that fun involves really getting into the zone to bring Mae to life.
“Of course, the outfit and hair really get me into the mood,” she explains. “Everyone on set fully committed to their characters. Before filming, I watched classic Pam Grier movies to ensure I was authentic, and I think it helped kick my performance up many notches.”
With a blend of improvised freedom and immersive collaboration, Foxxx bounced off of the other actors to achieve a believable dynamic.
“I spent the most time with Cali Caliente, as she really brought a lot of positive energy to the set and was my real partner in crime,” she explains. “Isiah Maxwell is always a pleasure to be around, and Misty Stone is forever a classic. Ricky Greenwood also did a fantastic job casting everyone. It was entertaining watching everyone get so into being their characters.”
Foxxx also underscores, “All the sex scenes were excellent, but I always love a good group scene. So I really enjoyed filming the scene with Caliente, Scotty P, Thriller and myself. We all vibed well and had a lot of fun — and orgasms.”
Having such an enthusiastic lead actress who works well with others was a boon for the production team, as Adult Time’s marketing director Frank Stacy remarks.
“The whole team at Adult Time loves working with Ana Foxxx!” Stacy says. “She’s always very professional, pleasant and polite. As you can see in her videos, she is also someone that brings a very strong energy to the table and there’s a reason she is such an acclaimed performer.
“There’s a unique quality to the assets from ‘Sally Mae: The Revenge of the Twin Dragons,’ which benefits from a mix of Ana’s personality and good looks, a talented photographer on set and some inspiring decor. That makes it, in my opinion, one of the most visually striking projects we ever did.”
Greenwood also commends Foxxx, offering, “What’s not to enjoy about Ana? She’s one of the most talented stars in this business. She can do anything she puts her mind to. She’s a great actress, a great performer and most importantly, a great human. Let’s be clear, there’s no Sally Mae without Ana. She makes this movie special.”
Foxxx is equally effusive in sharing her adoration for the brains, brand and vision driving Mae’s latest adventure.
“Ricky is phenomenal,” she says. “He’s by far one of my favorite directors. He was there every step of the way, ensuring everyone looked amazing, felt comfortable and gave their best on-screen performances. Honestly, I would work with Ricky every day if I could. And it’s been an honor to work with Adult Time. The effort they put into ‘Sally Mae: The Revenge of the Twin Dragons’ was truly appreciated.
“It’s projects like this that make me want to go above and beyond with not only my acting, but also my sex scenes,” she continues. “I’m very thankful for this opportunity to play Sally again, and I can’t wait to see the final product when it debuts.”
Though praised for running a well-oiled machine that encourages teamwork and empowerment, Adult Time was not content to rest on its laurels. Given the success of “Sweet Sweet Sally Mae,” the team and performers sought to up the stakes for the sequel, cinematically and narratively. Story-wise, Stacy describes the new film as more complex, with many more plot twists, gags and movie references than the first.
“There are new characters, new jaw-dropping locations and some amazing sexual performances between top-notch adult stars,” he promises. “For most fans, it will be everything they liked about the first movie but cranked up a notch.”
Stacy also points out that one of the biggest pivots from the original is that this time, it is not a girl-girl film.
“While we know that we have a very vocal and dedicated lesbian member base on our platform, the bulk of our users are still primarily watching straight content and we felt that including various sexual preferences in the sequel would broaden its appeal and get it on a lot more people’s radar,” Stacy elaborates.
He also sees the positive relationship between umbrella brand and in-the-trenches director as instrumental when it came to producing a quality feature.
“We have a very good relationship with Ricky,” Stacy notes. “I have known Ricky since he was working as a production manager for Mile High Media and we share an interest in obscure horror movies, action-packed ’80s flicks and exploitation cinema. Because he has such a wide knowledge of popular culture and such a passion for filmmaking, Ricky is always a blast to work with, coming prepared to brainstorming sessions with a bunch of wild and crazy ideas.”
Greenwood agrees with Stacy’s assessment and says he appreciated the support for his vision, as well as the detailed-oriented focus of the Gamma crew behind the scenes. Even after production is wrapped, he says, Adult Time keeps him in the loop with editing details so he can provide further input toward the final product.
“That’s very rare coming from a big studio and I value that, because normally my job is done after the shoot,” he says. “I really appreciate the trust they give us for our innovative direction.”
Looking ahead, Stacy expresses his eagerness to continue flexing Adult Time’s marketing muscle and Greenwood’s creativity beyond “Sally Mae: The Revenge of the Twin Dragons” and “Grinders.”
“Recently, he’s helped us with producing some of our very first Adult Time gay original series,” he says. “Which is something we are all really excited about.”
