Indiana 'Adult Baby' Supply Store Targeted by Local Activists

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — My Inner Baby, an Indiana store specializing in supplies for members of the “adult baby” community, is being targeted by local activists seeking to reclassify it as a sex shop.

While the store describes itself as "a medical supply outlet that sells adult diapers and other incontinence supplies,” local news site IndyStar reported today, it also carries clothing and other items of interest and supplies for the Adult Baby/Diaper Lovers community.

The IndyStar article includes a photo essay showing the interior of My Inner Baby and the rather innocuous infant-themed items that comprise the shop's stock.

The store’s Twitter page advertises, “We are an ABDL retail store located in Noblesville, IN. We opened in Nov. 2020 and we’re open 6 days a week. From diapers to bottles, We make littles waddle!”

Local activists, however, are reportedly seeking to reclassify My Inner Baby as a sex store.

Indiana has been a battleground for religiously motivated crusaders attempting to censor sexually oriented material through manipulation of zoning ordinances and municipal and state processes.

As XBIZ reported, earlier this year, legal wins by two adult boutiques prompted Indiana state legislators to escalate a municipal battle over zoning discrimination against “sexually-oriented businesses” to the statewide level.

In January, two state reps, Democrat Carey Hamilton and Republican Mike Speedy, introduced House Bill 1122 in direct response to the opening of a Hustler Hollywood store and a Lion’s Den store in their districts, after a protracted zoning battle in which the free speech and anti-discrimination arguments put forth by the stores' owners prevailed.

According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, HB 1122 “would prohibit a registered sexually-oriented business, such as an adult bookstore, sex toy shop or strip club, from operating within 1,000 feet of a facility that caters to minors. That includes schools, daycares, a YMCA, public swimming pools and playgrounds, as well as businesses such as arcades and trampoline parks.”

The bill also includes “a more detailed description of what Indiana considers ‘sexually explicit materials’ that would deem a business as ‘sexually-oriented.’”

While the Indiana House approved the bill, it has seen no further action since being referred to the state senate's Judiciary Committee in February.
