NAPA, Calif. — Vibratex, the exclusive North American distributor of the Magic Wand brand, has sent its recently commissioned "Pleasure as Art" sculpture on tour, with its first stop the As You Like It retail store in Eugene, Oregon.
Vibratex commissioned Miami-based artist Dafne Blade to create the sculpture using 100 damaged or defective Magic Wands. The resulting piece, described by Mashable as "not only stunning, but evocative of 'Game of Thrones,'" will be on display in As You Like It’s Eugene location through early July.
As You Like It, noted a rep, is a “different kind of pleasure shop, one for everybody and every body — queer woman-owned, body-positive, eco-conscious, inclusive and affirming."
The shop is a Green America-certified business with a foundation in eco-conscious practices, proprietor Kim Marks explained, as well as an early supporter of the ecosexual movement.
"We love to see creative and artistic ways to recycle and reuse old toys into something beautiful, which is why this sculpture resonated so strongly with us," said Marks. "The sculpture looks beautiful in our space, and we are so excited to have it. We are honored to be the first shop to host this sculpture in person; thank you to Magic Wand and Dafne Blade for the opportunity."
As You Like It will host an event to celebrate the installation on Saturday, June 25.
Those who take a photo of the sculpture and post it to Instagram, tagging As You Like It, Magic Wand and Dafne Blade, will receive a 10% discount on any one item at the shop.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have the sculpture’s debut happen with As You Like It,” Vibratex CEO Ken Herskovitz said. “Kim’s commitment to eco-conscious practices — and love for the Magic Wand — made her store a wonderful fit for the piece.”
The sculpture will next be displayed at the ANME trade show in Burbank, California in July.
