WASHINGTON, DC — Woodhull Freedom Foundation has received a commitment of "substantial financial support" from OnlyFans to assist the organization in the advancement of its mission to defend and affirm sexual freedom as a human right.
Woodhull President Ricci Joy Levy said the organization will use the funds to "further the understanding of discriminatory laws and policies around sex and sex work, and to ramp up its public advocacy work in protecting sexual expression."
“The incredibly generous support from OnlyFans couldn’t have come at a more pressing time, and I’m thankful for their commitment to our mission,” Levy added. “In just the past year, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in both cultural and governmental attempts to deny people’s fundamental right to sexual expression. This will help us fight back.”
OnlyFans CEO Ami Gan noted the company has "worked hard to build a safe and inclusive platform where freedom of expression thrives."
"We stand firm against all forms of discrimination and embrace our community’s uniqueness," said Gan. "We are acutely aware of the serious stigmatization often faced by adult content creators and other sex-positive creators, and we hope that our support of Woodhull will help pave the way for greater recognition of sexual rights.
"We are proud to support the Woodhull Freedom Foundation," she said.
Levy explained Woodhull has been "at the forefront of legal and cultural battles over censorship, gender and sexuality discrimination, and protection of consensual sexual activity and expression, including sex work."
“Censors often go after sex and sex work first because they think few will object,” Levy continued. “They depend on stigma to silence. But censorship of sex degrades our entire society — our healthcare, our educational system, our labor and legal rights, the fight for gender equity and bodily autonomy. That’s why, at a time of increasing repression, it’s more important than ever to stand up.”
