NAPA, Calif. — Mashable recently profiled Magic Wand's "Pleasure as Art" initiative and the company's commissioned sculpture by Dafne Blade.
Mashable writer Anna Iovine referred to Blade's art piece as "not only stunning, but evocative of ‘Game of Thrones.’”
Vibratex is the sole North American distributor of the Magic Wand brand.
“The 'Pleasure as Art' contest called on creators to create ‘magic’ with 100 wands that were unsellable, like if they were damaged in transit or defective," Iovine wrote. "Vibratex believed the challenge would illustrate customers' broad and artistic love for the Magic Wand, according to its CEO Ken Herskovitz."
Herskovitz added, "As we reviewed the submissions, the varied interpretations of pleasure and intimacy made it clear that we’d underestimated the power of what we’d started."
The company intends to hold a formal reveal event featuring the final art piece, noted a rep, as well as "a host of conceptual sketches, models and writings" created by the artist during their process.
Blade spoke to Mashable about their concept and its challenges.
"It's… important for me to give my own voice," Blade said, "and also be able to make art from my perspective."
