Q&A: Adult Time's Modern-Day Sins Blends Luxury Visuals, Raunchy Sex

As timeless as the devil himself, the seven deadly sins of pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth have long embodied mankind’s deepest appetites. These so-called flaws have long served as a shame-fueling truncheon that preachers, priests and religious leaders of every stripe adore wielding.

But for Adult Time and its XBIZ Award-winning chief creative officer Bree Mills, whose popular Pure Taboo brand is a testament to how much she delights in the cathartic exploration of deviant delights, such wicked wonders are best served with tongue-in-cheek charm and narrative naughtiness.

Now, with the launch of Modern-Day Sins, Adult Time is bringing fans and stars together under a cathedral of carnal bliss, with an aesthetic that finds that sweet spot between glamcore luxury and ribald debauchery.

With scenes running the content gamut of straight, gay, trans and everything in between, themed around the seven deadly sins — with a modern-day twist, of course — the new studio is planning an aggressive launch schedule with prolific output and subscriber-attuned analysis for agile pivots as feedback begins pouring in from loyal members.

After all, the team behind Adult Time at Gamma has long understood the value of eliciting input from the brand’s most passionate fans, incorporating everything from storyline and casting requests to user-interface changes that aim to ensure long-term growth and retention.

With its own unique twist on the classic sins, sporting series titles like “Lust Triangles,” “Cum Gluttons,” “Proud Pervs” and “Mad Fuckers,” the team of editors, producers and marketers is ready to bring forth a new porn testament that is sure to have puerile pontiffs quaking in their boots and fans shivering with excitement.

Showrunner 3X West, who is very enthusiastic about bringing this new endeavor to life, knelt before the pews with XBIZ to discuss the fledgling studio as it prepares to rise up like a sexual goliath.

XBIZ: How will Modern-Day Sins distinguish itself in Adult Time’s robust studio offerings, in terms of visuals, narrative and overall vibe?

WEST: Strangely enough, we actually don’t have much dramatic content on the Adult Time platform compared to our lighthearted content, at least not among our original productions. We have Pure Taboo, one of our most well-known — dare I say, notorious! — dramatic series, but the content can be a bit polarizing due to its gritty film style and edgy subject matter.

We felt that we were overdue to introduce a new flavor of dramatic content into our overall mix — something that’s eye-catching and tantalizing, but doesn’t rely on shock factor to attract attention. The main vibe of Modern-Day Sins is to pair luxury visuals with raunchy sex, which makes for a sort of ironic contrast between sophistication and debauchery.

XBIZ: As showrunner, how do you foster behind-the-scenes teamwork to bring this studio to life?

WEST: I’m very humbled to say that I’ve been given full oversight as showrunner for the new studio, which is a great honor, but of course it takes a village to launch a studio. The whole Adult Time team has been involved in this launch every step of the way, definitely more than for any other project.

Sometimes for smaller series we’ll assign a smaller amount of writers, editors, producers and so on to work on the whole thing, but since Modern-Day Sins will be an ongoing studio we felt it was important to get the whole team knee-deep in it as early as possible.

I don’t think there’s a single staff member who hasn’t touched Modern-Day Sins in some way or another, which is so inspiring to see. As a creator, it’s just the greatest feeling in the world to see so many people rallying around your idea to make it a reality.

XBIZ: What is most challenging about launching a new studio and how will you adapt to fan responses as scenes release to ensure early success?

WEST: Standing out in a crowd just gets harder and harder as more products and competitors vie for customers’ attention. There’s always a push-and-pull between making something that’s popular enough to attract an audience but different enough to feel fresh and scratch an itch that hasn’t been scratched yet. We hope we’ve managed to do this with Modern-Day Sins, because we noticed that most of the dramatic products out there tend to have sex that’s more on the vanilla or erotica side.

So we feel pretty confident that we have the right recipe to offer something unique and in-demand. But fan response will definitely tell us if we’ve succeeded or not, and we plan to be very agile in adapting based on early feedback. We’ll be looking at tons of data points during the first month of launch, including running surveys, reading and replying to member comments, and comparing content metrics like views, downloads, favorites, upvotes, etc. to see what’s working and what isn’t.

We do this for all our content every month, incidentally, and are always trying to improve our content to be more in line with member tastes. But the early stages of a product are the most crucial for collecting this feedback and acting on it fast. Nobody wants to launch a product that no one likes!

XBIZ: How does the “seven deadly sins” theme of the brand come into play in terms of categorizing individual scenes?

WEST: We picked seven core themes to tie to the seven sins that we felt would withstand the test of time. Categories like anal and creampies are always the most-searched terms on our platform, and stories like almost getting caught cheating, having sex in public or spying on someone sleeping are universal favorites that always seem to do well whenever we produce content about them.

So we made sure to pick categories that we felt had longevity and that we could use over and over without it getting stale. Since each sin is paired with a specific category, we’ll be rotating between the seven each week … but we also know that means it will be a long time before a subscriber’s favorite sin will come back around again. So we’ve also made sure there’s plenty of overlap between the sins; a “Greedy Creampies” release will always include a creampie ending, but nothing’s stopping us from also having creampies in “Proud Pervs,” “Mad Fuckers” or other sins as well.

XBIZ: Talk about your marketing plans for Modern-Day Sins, as far as social media rollout, art direction and punchy copywriting?

WEST: We've taken a lot of inspiration for our designs from high-end brands like jewelry, watches, cars, five-star hotels and restaurants. We want our brand to feel classy and sophisticated at first glance, but then make you turn your head once you realize how lurid it actually is.

You'll see some art deco inspiration, plus some more classically fancy influences like leather monogramming, metallic lettering, serif font, etc. so that it manages to look modern but timeless at the same time.

And for the brand voice, we landed on a tempting, coaxing tone, just like that little shoulder devil whispering in your ear, “Go ahead, do it, you know you’ve always wanted to.” It’s like that little mischievous influence encouraging you to let go and sin a little. We all have those moments of wanting to be a little naughty, and Modern-Day Sins encourages you to indulge in those impulses.

XBIZ: Can you give us a glimpse of the first few episodes and what they’ll entail, as well as their cast members and directors?

WEST: We’ll be having a launch event on January 1, 2022 releasing seven episodes — one for each sin. They’ll be a mix of all sexual preferences — straight, lesbian, trans, gay and bisexual — so that there’s something for everyone. From there, we’ll be releasing a new straight episode every Sunday, and sometimes a bonus episode for another sexual preference about twice per month on Sundays as well. We also released an advance preview of a full free scene — that you can watch whether you’re a member or not — on the ModernDaySins.com homepage.

For what fans can expect, definitely lots of cheating, haha. But beyond that you can look forward to teen sleepovers, reverse gangbangs, fondling in public, lesbian squirt swallowing, corrupting innocent babysitters, straight-to-gay seduction, evil in-laws, perverted maids and plenty more.

We've got a star-studded cast from every corner of the industry, with just some of the names including Vina Sky, Bridgette B., Gianna Dior, Kenna James, Victoria Voxxx, Anny Aurora, Whitney Wright, Vanessa Vega, Ana Foxxx, Lola Fae, Jade Venus, Jessy Dubai, Ella Hollywood, Dalton Riley and Beaux Banks ... and that’s just in January! The sex in Modern- Day Sins is meant to be intense and highenergy so we’ve been blessed to be able to work with some of the most passionate and experienced pros in the business. We hope to continue our streak throughout 2022 and beyond!

XBIZ: What milestones do you hope to achieve with the brand?

WEST: Just winning the hearts of our fans is our biggest milestone we could hope to achieve. Without our viewers, we wouldn’t have a platform to showcase all the exciting content we want to share with the world, so it’s very important to us that our projects resonate with members and attract new audiences.

With that in mind, we're definitely setting our sights this coming year to expand our audience in the trans, bisexual and gay markets. Modern-Day Sins marks Adult Time’s first gay original production ever, but we certainly don’t want it to be our last. So we’re hoping that the steps we’ve taken to introduce gay episodes to some new products from the very start, combined with the platform improvements we’ve rolled out in the past year, such as allowing members to permanently toggle their sexual preference settings for browsing content, will start to entice gay customers to hear about and join our platform. And we’ve slated new Transfixed releases alongside Modern- Day Sins this year to drastically increase our volume and variety of trans content with similar goals.

So with any luck, by the end of 2022 and onward, no matter what your background or preferences are, we hope you’ll have heard of Adult Time and maybe even have subscribed to it. Our biggest long-term goal is to become a household name for porn fans. And we believe that as long as we keep releasing new and exciting series and studios like Modern-Day Sins, we’ll get there eventually. “If you build it, they will come!”
