APAG to Host Open Meeting With Congressional Candidate Alexandra Hunt

LOS ANGELES — Adult Performance Artists Guild (APAG) invites industry members to attend the union's open meeting with Alexandra Hunt, a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Philadelphia (PA-03), on Sunday, May 16, at 5 p.m. (PDT).

"As more legislation is introduced that directly affects our workers, APAG recognizes how important it is to seek out leaders who support industry labor efforts and sex work decriminalization," a union rep said.

"Alexandra is a public health researcher, a girls’ soccer coach, an advocate for social, racial, economic and environmental justice, and an organizer fighting for the 3rd district of Pennsylvania. During her time in college, Alexandra worked as both a server and a stripper in order to make ends meet, furthering her commitment to issues affecting working-class people," noted the rep.

As the candidate noted in a recent interview, "I decided to be transparent, and I didn’t want to be in a place where anything was being used against me. I did it because I needed the finances. And I’m not going to be ashamed of it, and I’m hoping I get to connect with other women or male sex workers out there."

Union president Alana Evans and members of APAG recently spoke at a rally in support of Eliza Orlins, a candidate for district attorney in New York.

"We are excited to provide the opportunity for our workers and introduce our community to potential leaders who will listen to our struggles and fight for us," Evans said.

APAG member Amberly Rothfield helped organize the upcoming meeting after connecting with Hunt's team at the Orlins rally.

"In the words of [performer] MelRose Michaels, we are the one industry that has the least representation in the political system. I will always back those who want to give us more of a voice in government," Rothfield stated.

The regularly scheduled APAG meeting will follow Sunday's meet-up; click here to RSVP and follow APAG on Twitter for updates.
