LOS ANGELES — Wicked Sensual Care brand strategist, performer and sex educator Jessica Drake recently completed two university speaking engagements that saw her addressing the realities and dispelling the misconceptions of sex work, the adult entertainment industry, advocacy and other sexual wellness topics.
Her first talk was with the students of "Psychology of Human Sexuality," offered through the Psychology Department of the University of New Mexico and taught by Assistant Professor Tania Reynolds. Utilizing a virtual format, Drake addressed a host of topics with the class of undergraduates, including sexual health, relationships, feminism, tolerance, boundaries and consent.
“Jessica was incredibly engaging, professional and thoughtful," Reynolds said. "She used inclusive language and was very open about her experiences. My students thoroughly enjoyed her talk and said that it helped dispel many of their misconceptions about the pornography industry and sex work."
The University of New Mexico event was followed by a talk with the students of a “Human Sexuality” class at the University of North Carolina, taught by Alicia Miller.
Miller said that Drake “brings indispensable experience and knowledge to conversations about sex, adult films and advocacy. Our honest question-and-answer session was described by students as 'empowering' and 'inspiring.’”
Drake explained that “having the chance to speak at universities is not only rewarding, it's exceptionally thought-provoking and gives me the opportunity to hone my presentations to better serve inquisitive young minds.”
”Between being spoon-fed porn by every device and lacking comprehensive, consent-based, non-judgmental sex education, it's a topic we must keep talking about,” Drake added. “My hope is not only that my voice will continue to be included in these areas, but that the voices of others with valuable lived experiences are heard as well."
