Pornhub Insights Releases Stats for 2020 'Tech Review'

MONTREAL — Pornhub Insights, the tube site’s statistics, data analysis and infographic initiative, released yesterday a “Porhub Tech Review” report for 2020, commissioned by Forbes.

“Over the past year, technology has played a more pronounced role in our daily lives, as both a source of entertainment, and how we communicate with friends, family and coworkers,” the report begins. “Quite often it’s the same tech that we use to touch ourselves, that we use to keep in touch with others,” prompting the company to “take a closer look at the tech we use to log on and get off.”

According to the company, 130 million people visit Pornhub every day, “from all parts of the world and representing a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.”

“Analyzing these billions of visits and pageviews gives us a snapshot of not only what sort of porn the world was viewing, but what devices and technologies we were using to connect with the internet,” the report added.

Some of the conclusions of the Pornhub Tech Review are:

  • Traffic by Device: 80% of users access Pornhub via phone, versus 15% via desktop and 4% via tablet.
  • Android vs. Apple: According to Pornhub data, Apple is the market leader in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Scandinavia, Australia and Japan. Android, however, surpasses Apple in the rest of the world. Within the U.S., Apple’s iOS is the top OS of choice for the majority of Americans, except for three states where Android represents more visits: Oregon, Ohio and Virginia.
  • Web Browsers: 46.7% of users access Pornhub via Chrome on their phones, closely followed by Safari (41.1%), and with the remainder of the market being shared by Samsung, UC Browser, Opera Mini and other browsers. Opera Mini has shown the greatest growth in mobile traffic share last year, growing at a rate of almost 30%. 53.2% of desktop users of Pornhub favor Chrome, 18.4% use Safari, 10.3% use Edge, with the rest of the market split between Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer and other browsers.
  • Operating Systems: Mobile users are split almost evenly between Apple’s OS (52.9%) and Android’s (46.8%), with the latter showing steady growth last year (14%) and trending towards catching up. For desktops, Windows users still control the lion’s share of the market (66.6%), followed by Macs (26.1), and the rest split among Linux, Chrome OS and others. While desktop operating systems make up only 15% of Pornhub’s traffic, it’s still an active tech group as the share of MacOS users grew by +57% in 2020.
  • Android vs. Apple — Searches: Top Five searches by Android users: 'Japan,' 'Pokemon', 'giantess,' '3D' and 'Furry.' Top Five searches by Apple users: 'Car sex,' 'Fat ass,' 'fingering', 'vibrator,' 'college.'
  • Windows vs. Mac — Searches: Top 5 searches by Windows users (when compared to other OS): 'cartoon,' 'virtual reality,' 'hentai', 'trans with guy,' 'small tits.' Top Five searches by MacOS users (when compared to other OS): 'popular with women,' 'solo male,' 'lesbian,' 'muscular men,' 'romantic.'

All traffic is anonymized and based on data pulled from Google Analytics.
