Allie Awesome Speaks to NBC News, Vice on Pornhub Changes

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Prolific content creator Allie Awesome was recently interviewed by NBC News and Vice's Motherboard about the ramifications on the lives of sex workers of major credit card companies cutting ties with Pornhub.

“This is a crusade against the sex industry and the workers who comprise it,” she told NBC News reporter Olivia Solon. "Attacking an industry that is largely comprised of people who occupy marginalized identities is always shameful,” she said. “But it’s particularly awful in the middle of a pandemic when a lot of people are turning to platforms like Pornhub in order to pay their bills."

A rep noted that Awesome has "always fought against abuse and [believes] there needs to be more accountability on mainstream platforms, including Facebook, that are known to have a huge problem with non-consensual content being shared. And, while a lot of work is done behind the scenes, sex workers are leading the fight against abusive content, not the anti-porn movement."

She spoke to Motherboard's Leigh Cuen about "using Bitcoin as a payment method on adult platforms."

"While she's a user of cryptocurrency, she also understands that it's rare to see it used as a payment on Pornhub and Modelhub," explained the rep. "With the absence of a more traditional method of payments, she's concerned that fans will not go through the added trouble of using alternate methods of payment."
