BIPOC-AIC to Host Post-Election Town Hall Thursday Night

LOS ANGELES — BIPOC-AIC will host a free virtual gathering Thursday from 6-8 p.m. (PST) for its members and others to discuss the potential implications of a Joe Biden-Kamala Harris presidential administration.

The chair of BIPOC-AIC's Wellness Committee, N. Jasmine Johnson of Blue Pearl Therapy, will facilitate what a rep described as a "safe space for BIPOC sex workers, content creators and performers to provide emotional and psychological support. The two-hour session encourages attendees to voice fears and concerns surrounding the election cycle and its historic election results."

"Yes, let's celebrate the inevitable changing of the guard [and] the first BIPOC woman Vice President-elect. But for those impacted by harmful legislation like FOSTA/SESTA, there are still concerns," said the rep, and noted "the unique challenges BIPOC sex workers face supporting Kamala Harris."

Thursday's meeting — titled "Go Awf!" — is intended to "make space for marginalized folks to react and respond to all of the issues that disproportionately affect BIPOC sex workers," continued the rep. "By contextualizing experiences of fellow sex workers, BIPOC-AIC will learn how to support our community better and strategize the next steps for the challenging weeks that will lead up to the 2021 inauguration."

"Regardless of which administration is sworn into office in January 2021, we want to provide as many resources as possible to marginalized workers [by] centering and supporting mental and physical wellness, financial success and community development," the rep said.

Tickets are free but registration is requested via Eventbrite.

Follow BIPOC-AIC on Twitter and AllMyLinks for the latest updates.

Reps invite the community to utilize their weekly drop-in support group and yoga class, sponsored in part by Trouble Films, for additional support as needed.
