LOS ANGELES — Axel Braun is inviting male performers to submit an audition tape to play Batman in his forthcoming series "The Batman XXX" for Wicked Pictures.
"While an Axel Braun casting call is always a huge event," a rep explained, "with lines often stretching all the way around the Wicked building, this year, due to COVID-19, the director will only be accepting online submissions, a practice he already tested last year when over 120 girls sent in their video auditions for the lead role in 'Captain Marvel XXX,' which ultimately went to Kenzie Taylor."
"All licensed talent agencies have been sent sides and model release forms, so any performers looking to audition should reach out to their respective agents for details," continued the rep.
Self-booking talent are asked to request sides from Melissa at casting@axelbraun.com, and submissions and model releases may be sent to the same address by September 15 with the subject line, "The Batman XXX Audition."
“This is beyond exciting for me,” enthused Braun. “I love the casting process, and Batman is not only an iconic role but also the character that single-handedly fueled my passion for parodies.”
The ambitious project is intended as a reboot of Braun's interconnected series of award-winning superhero titles. Braun's "Captain Marvel XXX" captured two XBIZ Awards earlier this year for Best Art Direction and Best Special Effects.
"The Batman XXX" will unfold over eight 45-minute weekly episodes on Wicked.com, followed by a six-hour Bluray release.
“Season One of 'The Batman XXX' will be a massive undertaking,” Braun continued. “So whoever ends up in that costume needs to be prepared to display a wide acting range and intensity, as well as a strong physicality. And of course, he needs to be able and willing to endure my notoriously long hours on set. But most of all, he needs to love and respect the source material and really care about the project.”
Performers Giovanni Francesco (in five titles), Charles Dera (two titles) and Dale DaBone — "the one who started it all," Braun recalled — have donned the cape-and-cowl in various iterations of the character for Braun.
However, the director is "not seeking someone to simply recreate what viewers have experienced before."
"It’s important for me to see something fresh and creative, so I encourage all talent to come up with their own version of the character as opposed to imitating any performances," he said.
