LONDON — A new Ex Doll series of dolls by Cloud Climax is being touted as so realistic-looking that the company says it is the “closet approach to human cloning.”
For the new series, Cloud Climax said it collaborated with the photographer Wang Dong (aka Wanimal) for an ongoing partnership.
“Wang Dong may be new to some of you,” the company said. “Wang Dong graduated from the China Central Academy of Drama and is a well-known fashion pioneer and body art photographer, esteemed in the photography industry.”
The company said that the new collection of dolls was produced using new industrial-grade 3D equipment, and that it took half-a-year of research, development, testing and prototypes. The dolls will be accompanied by photography shot by Wanimal.
According to Cloud Climax, it used a self-developed scanning system to collect the biological data of a model named Jie. The doll is made of new, slightly harder wax-like silicone that is intended to better maintain the doll’s details and textures, and allow for better storage of the dolls — which the company said have a life span of more than 50 years.
Among the realistic details of the doll are skin details as small as 0.03mm, blood vessels and body hair. The company says it takes five Ex Doll senior painters and 20 working days to produce the dolls.
