Hillsborough, N.C. — Adam & Eve has revealed the results of a survey examining Americans' sex toy hygiene habits.
Almost 58% of respondents — 49% of the men, and 65% of the women — reported cleaning their sex toys after every use, while nearly 33% of those polled — 40% of the men, 26% of females — reported never cleaning their sex toys.
Those who reported cleaning their sex toys occasionally came to 10% of respondents, among them 11% of the men and nearly 9% of the women.
"Interestingly, when compared to Adam & Eve’s 2016 survey, which asked the same question, these numbers have not improved much," a representative observes. "At that time, 63% of respondents — 57% of the males and 70% of the females — said they cleaned their sex toys after every use. Nearly 28% —36% of the males and 19% of the females — said they never cleaned their toys."
"And 9% of those polled — 7% of the males and 11% of the females — said they cleaned their toys every once in a while," continued the rep.
Dr. Jenni Skyler, resident sexologist for Adam & Eve, noted the importance of sex toy hygiene.
“I can’t stress how important it is to clean your sex toys after each use,” she said. “Besides helping your toys last longer, this prevents the spread of infection. Most toys include cleaning instructions, and there are numerous toy cleansers available.”
Chad Davis, director of marketing for Adam & Eve, echoed Dr. Skyler's advice.
“Adam & Eve carries a wide variety of adult toys and cleansers to meet a wide variety of personal preferences and needs,” he said.
The web-based survey was sponsored by Adam & Eve and conducted by an independent third party company. Over 1,000 Amerians, aged 18 and up, were surveyed.
