LOS ANGELES — "SciFi Dreamgirls," a dystopian series co-produced by Ashely Fires’ Rebel Base Studios and Wasteland.com, is now available via VOD on Kink.com.
“We’re thrilled to add 'SciFi Dreamgirls' to our content partnership with Kink and I think it’s a series the Kink VOD member base will really enjoy,” said Colin Rowntree, Wasteland founder and co-producer of the series. “I’ve loved 'SciFi Dreamgirls' since it was just in the concept stage, as it’s one of those series where I’d be a big fan, even if I hadn’t helped produce it.”
Alison Boden, CEO of Kink shared, “At a time when the real world is feeling like a dystopia, we're glad to be adding some hardcore fantasy from Wasteland to the Kink library.”
The main storyline revolves around Dr. Fires (played by Ashley) a leading scientist in the field of Robotics and Applied Android Development. Dr. Fires has always loved her work and had a vision of a world where robots interacted with humans sexually.
Once the head scientist for the HRX Corporation, who left when the government tried to weaponize her creations, Dr. Fires starts her own experimental Android division. Creating her own Humanoid Robotic Experiments (“HRX”) model, the Ashley 3000 (also played by Ashley) is far more advanced than any of the past models. She is the very first proper, fully functional “Sex Android.”
As Jack Kona, Fires’ husband and co-producer of "SciFi Dreamgirls" once explained, the series was inspired by his wife — and a fortuitous bit of happenstance — from the start.
“Ashley had come home after a Playboy TV promo shoot and she was playing a sixties mod girl, so her hair was teased up and had on cool cat-eye makeup,” Kona said. “I took one glance at her and thought she looked just like the sexy evil fembots from Austin Powers.”
“I said, before you take off your make-up, let’s shoot a video where you are a robot and I control you with an RC remote,” Kona continued. “I will command you to give me a handjob and you malfunction while you’re doing it and you can’t stop! And say things like ‘Error, Error! Does not compute!’ Ok, so it may have sounded like a silly idea for a video clip, but Ashley was excited and thought it was a brilliant idea. We shot and it turned out to be a very funny clip.”
While the clip quickly became one of their most popular videos, according to a rep, Kona and Fires didn’t expand on their sexbot porn idea until years later — a reemergence of the concept that soon turned into a collaboration with Rowntree and Wasteland.
“I love the dynamics between the humans and the fembots,” Kona said of how the series evolved. “Being seemingly in control over a female robot and then having her malfunction and go haywire, completely out of control. And you do everything in your power to try to fix her — kind of like a human relationship."
