WELLINGTON, New Zealand — New Zealand’s AdultToyMegastore (ATMS) is set to become the first adult retailer in New Zealand, and possibly Australia, to roll out completely recyclable and compostable packaging.
With over 1,500 packages delivered daily around the world, the company's move towards eco-friendly packaging will swap traditional bubble wrap and other hard-to-recycle materials for compostable bags and recyclable packaging.
To accomplish this, ATMS has teamed up with a fellow Kiwi-owned brand, R3pack, to revamp their operation. The new certified compostable courier bags, made of cornstarch PLA and other biodegradable materials, are designed to break down both in home and commercial composts.
Additionally, ATMS has switched to Geami Eco Wrap, which is made from sustainable forestry paper. At the end of its use, it is fully recyclable and compostable providing two solutions for the end user.
Company reps say that the move follows an October trial run, and subsequent survey, which asked customers how they felt about the new packaging. Of those surveyed, 96 percent said they noticed that the new packaging was environmentally friendly and 84 percent said they cared that the packaging had changed. Of those respondents, 65 percent "loved" the new packaging and 25 percent said they "liked" it.
“This is a big step for us, but we’re proud to be doing it,” revealed ATMS Owner Nicola Relph.
"We wanted to walk the talk and show that even when sending out thousands of packages a day, all around the world, you can still do the right thing and put the planet before profit. We're also looking to be the first adult retailer in Australasia, and potentially the world, to set up an adult toy recycling program," she concluded. "We want to lead the way, as New Zealand businesses often do, to make a difference."
