LOS ANGELES — XtraSexyReality has released its innovative, interactive virtual reality porn game, featuring actual models rather than computer-generated characters.
Recently banned from Steam’s adult content store, the app is a "choose your own adventure"-style game that works with both VR headsets and standard computers, providing players the ability to "teleport" to different camera locations across a scene.
The platform was created by Tamar, a sex worker, psychology Ph.D. student and activist from Amsterdam, who teamed up with one of her partners, Ninja, a VR developer from San Francisco, to create a game that promotes "authentic sexuality."
“We are both exhibitionists and we wanted to let people feel that they were actually playing with us and communicating what they want,” Tamar explained. “One of our main goals was to show players how we communicate around boundaries and make sure to stay safe even in kinky situations like breath play or fisting.”
Ninja echoed Tamar's sentiments.
“We live in a sad world where shooting and sexual violence is promoted by the gaming industry but authentic playful and consensual sexuality is deemed inappropriate for adults,” Ninja said of the Steam ban and noted that many of its accepted titles depict extreme violence and sexual behavior.
The duo did not let this stumbling block stop them, however, and launched the game on their own web store.
“Our game pushes the limits of what VR and interactivity can do with adult content and if Steam wants to ban us it’s their loss,” Ninja added. “I knew building our own site would be hard because there is so much bias against the adult content industry and I’m very grateful for Peter Acworth, the founder of Kink.com and Ela Darling, the co-founder of VRTube.xxx, for all their support and advice.”
