MojoHost Launches MojoShield, New Cloudflare Alternative

LOS ANGELES — MojoHost has launched its MojoShield Web Application Firewall (WAF), a competing product to the well-known Cloudflare service.

According to the company, over 40 percent of internet traffic comprises bots, some of which are used to launch cyberattacks or the exploitation of websites with insufficient security or insecure code. MojoHost’s new solution makes websites faster while helping to secure them, with MojoShield delivering "cutting edge technology combined with award-winning support at a competitive price," a rep said.

Most website owners will recognize WAF for mitigating distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS), and the technology works because it protects origin servers. When an attack occurs, the technology spreads high volumes of website requests to alternative endpoints, instead of at the origin servers. "This reduces the level of requests to your website and the result is an ineffective attack that cannot threaten your website’s uptime. This is where most competing services would charge you based on the Giga- or Terabytes of bandwidth caused by the DDoS," said the rep. "The MojoShield solution does not bill based on bandwidth, with MojoHost instead opting to bill users based on the number of requests instead."

Additionally, there are no setup fees.

According to the company, DDoS attacks are not only damaging to a website’s uptime, but larger publishers using alternative web security products often have to choose between enabling their DDoS protection at significant cost to keep the sites online or try to sustain large-scale attacks to save money.

“It isn’t good 'mojo' for security companies to earn higher profits the more your website is attacked. It incentivizes more attacks,” said MojoHost CEO Brad Mitchell. “We have aligned our MojoShield offering with the needs of our clients. Our goal is for fewer attacks, not more, and our pricing model proves we are seeking to be a more proactive provider of web security, instead of trying to profit from the misfortune of others. We believe in protecting others this way because that’s good mojo.”

MojoHost is attending TES in Prague, and accepting meeting requests with MojoHost’s Technology Architect Christopher O’Connell via sales@mojohost.com.
