Acclaimed Adult Biz Docs Set Festival Screenings for July

LOS ANGELES — U.S. audiences have new opportunities in July to catch a pair of acclaimed documentaries focused on aspects of the all-male adult industry.

“Circus of Books” will screen at the Outfest Opening Night gala in Los Angeles, while “Jonathan Agassi Saved My Life” will play the Damn These Heels LGBTQ Film Festival in Utah.

Outfest unspools July 18-28 in Los Angeles, with the Opening Night Gala scheduled for Thursday, July 18 at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

“Within the pantheon of essential landmarks in the history of queer Los Angeles, there never has been nor will there ever be another place as singular and iconic as the legendary Circus of Books: the brick-and-mortar gay erotica emporium, cruising hotspot haven, and unofficial community center,” reads the Outfest description of the film.

In April, Netflix acquired worldwide rights to the film by director Rachel Mason that tells the story of her parents, Karen and Barry Mason, and their legendary bookstore, with producer and filmmaker Ryan Murphy aboard as executive producer.

Utah’s Damn These Heels LGBTQ Film Festival will host a screening of “Jonathan Agassi Saved My Life” on Saturday, July 13, at the Black Box Theatre in the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center.

“A rare and intimate story of one of the world’s most successful gay porn stars. A look at porn and escorting in a way that redefines family and cultural norms,” reads the festival description of the film.

Director Tomer Heymann’s award-winning film made its North American festival debut in April (click here for details) and continues to tour the festival circuit around the world, with recent stops in Warsaw, Mexico City and London.
