SAN FRANCISCO — Kinky Mommy Dom Penny Barber was recently profiled in a Daily Beast article that examined the juxtaposition of being a parent and working in the adult industry.
Penned by Aurora Snow, “How Porn Stars Balance Sex Work and Parenting: My Kids Are Trained to Respect Privacy” also features Karen Fisher, Leya Falcon and Foxxy in discussion about how they manage their jobs as parents and performers and touches on the difficulties faced by those who are not yet “out” to their kids.
Barber, whose fetish content heavily features mommy/son play, tells her children that she’s an indie filmmaker. While not entirely untrue, Barber revealed that she was “very excited” to have been interviewed for the article. “It’s great for non-industry people to understand what it’s like to be in adult and be a parent,” she commented. “Just because of our career choices, we’re no different than your typical housewife or working mother — we just lead more interesting lives.”
Barber specifically shared that while her unique job has allowed her the flexibility to spend more time with her kids, she’s had to put a number of extra precautions in place when it comes to privacy in her home, especially with regards to computer usage.
Additionally, Barber explained that she avoids participating in school-related activities and tries to keep engagements with other parents to a minimum. “You never know who’s going to start a rumor or who’s going to try to feel big by outing you,” she said. “I’d rather the other parents think I’m standoffish than have my children bullied or ostracized.”
