LOS ANGELES — Last Friday, camming culture documentary “A Cam Life” had its red-carpet premiere at the Regal Cinemas at L.A. Live, a swanky affair presented by Chaturbate, LALExpo and XBIZ.
The film, created by Billy Sorrentino, Andrew Weiss and Michael W. Abbott, aims to “pull back the curtain for a never-before-seen insider look at the multi-billion dollar world of camming, spanning popular sites, specialized cam studios and the entrepreneurial performers who attract an international fan base of loyal viewers.”
The screening was preceded by a happy hour reception at L.A. Live’s upscale Mexican food restaurant Rosa Mexicano. Guests enjoyed a sampling of the eatery’s renowned take on contemporary Mexican cuisine and enjoyed an open bar courtesy of the sponsors.
The affable Sorrentino and Weiss were present at the reception and the theatre, where they regaled the elite industry crowd with stories about the world-wide phenomenon of web camming. Sorrentino and Weiss told stories of shooting in Colombia and Romania, both international hubs of the burgeoning industry.
Weiss has produced a number of fiction and documentary projects showing different facets of the adult industry to mainstream audiences. His ongoing “After Porn Ends” series is a runaway success for streaming systems around the world.
The audience included sponsors Chaturbate Chief Operations Officer Shirley Lara and Anthony R. from Colombia’s AJ Studios and co-organizer of LALExpo, both of whom are prominently featured in the documentary.
Once the film started, the audience reacted with interest to the extensive interviews with elite cam models like 2016 XBIZ Girl/Girl Performer of the Year Vanessa Veracruz, Ariana Marie, Tori Black, Kaylani Lei, 2018 XBIZ Cam Awards Best Cam Model (North America) Chronic Love, Devious Angel, Dawn Willow, Marian Difiore, Manuela Puerta and María Santos, plus many other well-known web stars.
Though “A Cam Life” is currently available on Hulu (click here to stream the documentary), many in the industry crowd remarked how special it was to get the full red-carpet and big-screen treatment for this inside look at arguably the biggest sector in adult.
