DE WALLEN, Amsterdam — Flocks of tourists eager for a naughty experience in the infamous Red Light District of Amsterdam have a new spot on their tour: an immersive adult cinema that includes 3D goggles, jets of air and moisture and seats that buck and sway like a roller coaster.
The newly opened venue, dubbed "5D Porn" by its owner, Natalie, recently cut the ribbon with the assistance of Euro-star Kim Holland, who collaborated on the first films to play there. The sole screen seats 18 customers at a time and runs a single film six times per hour.
“The films are quite expensive to make and so we only make a few then we hold the screenings,” Natalie told Dutch Review. “We are definitely not just going after tourists for our audience. It’s funny because in Amsterdam even the Dutch people have an interest in breaking free from the norm. Come with your wife, have a laugh, try something different.”
She believes the 5D Porn experience will leave audiences properly aroused and excited. “Lots of things happen so fast when you’re in the audience that when it’s finally all over you’re left energized,” she notes. “You want to get back out there, have a beer or a coffee and talk, process what just happened.”
The cinema opens on the site of a long-shuttered adult theatre. Its neighbors include the Prostitution Information Centre, several nightclubs, an online radio station and a Protestant church.
In related news, Amesterdam’s city government has recently banned guided tours of the Red Light District beginning Jan. 1, 2020.
A spokesperson for the city cites noise and overcrowding generated by the tours, as well as “the perception of Amsterdam as a city of sex workers,” notes ABC News. Further, the city contends throngs of rowdy tourists at all hours can create a disrespectful atmosphere for the sex workers and interfere with their work. Proud, the sex workers' union, has questioned those assertions.
